Sally Rooney is an Irish author known for her critically acclaimed novels exploring themes of youth, love, and societal dynamics. Born in County Mayo, Ireland, Sally Rooney went on to study English literature at Trinity College Dublin. Her work has appeared in Granta, The Dublin Review, The White Review, The Stinging Fly, and the Winter Pages anthology.

Her debut novel, Conversations with Friends, received widespread praise for its insightful portrayal of relationships and millennial life.

Not only has she written New York Times bestselling books, Sally Rooney was also the editor of the Stinging Fly in 2018 and a Cullman Center Fellow at the New York Public Library from 2019 to 2020.

What awards or prizes has Sally Rooney won?

Sally Rooney was the winner of the Sunday Times/Peters Fraser + Dunlop Young Writer of the Year Award in 2017. In 2018, Conversations with Friends was shortlisted for both the Dylan Thomas Prize and the Rathbones Folio Prize. Normal People was the Waterstones Book of the Year, won the Costa Novel Award and was longlisted for the Man Booker Prize. She also won the Encore Award for Normal People in 2019.

Have Sally Rooney’s books been made into tv shows?

Both Normal People and Conversations With Friends have been made into television series. These popular books have reached a new audience through their acclaimed adaptations, bringing Rooney’s compelling narratives to life on screen.

The television adaptation of Normal People starred Daisy Edgar-Jones and Paul Mesca while Conversations With Friends starred Alison Oliver, Sasha Lane, Joe Alwyn and Jemima Kirke.

I’d definitely recommend watching the adaptation of Normal People. It was so faithful to the book and Daisy Edgar-Jones and Paul Mesca were brilliant as Marianne and Connell.

Does Sally Rooney have a new book?

Sally Rooney fans rejoice because there is a new book! I was so excited to read that her latest novel, Intermezzo, is due to be released in September 2024.

Peter and Ivan Koubek, despite being brothers, lead vastly different lives. Peter, a successful Dublin lawyer in his thirties, appears to have it all together on the surface, yet he struggles with inner turmoil following their father’s passing. His relationships with two women, Sylvia and Naomi, become increasingly complicated as he grapples with grief and self-medication.

On the other hand, Ivan, aged twenty-two, is a competitive chess player who views himself as socially awkward and distant from his charismatic older brother. In the midst of mourning, Ivan crosses paths with Margaret, an older woman with her own turbulent past, and their lives become rapidly and intensely intertwined.

For two grieving brothers and the people they love, this is a new interlude – a period of desire, despair and possibility – a chance to find out how much one life might hold inside itself without breaking.
