I read and loved Eve Chase’s novel The Glass House and how it combined mystery with family drama. It was a Richard and Judy book club pick and I loved how atmospheric and gripping it was.
I knew I wanted to read more books by Eve Chase and so I started with her debut novel, Black Rabbit Hall.

Plot
Back in the 1960s, The Altons spend their summers at Black Rabbit Hall, their family country estate. The days are long and full of laughter and fun. The house may be in some need of repair but the family love their long summers spent there until disaster strikes and things are never the same again.
In the present day, Lorna and her fiancé are searching for their ideal wedding venue in Cornwall. Lorna is drawn to Black Rabbit Hall and immediately feels an intense connection to the now depilated old building. She is intrigued to know what happened to the family who lived there over three decades ago and is curious about the pull she feels when she is there. Could she possibly be connected to Black Rabbit Hall, and the people who lived there?
Black Rabbit Hall Book Review
Black Rabbit Hall is a brilliant, atmospheric mystery and I really enjoyed it. I love novels about creepy old houses full of secrets and Eve Chase is wonderful at creating a sense of atmosphere throughout her novels. Black Rabbit Hall almost felt like a character in its own right.
Clues are dropped throughout the novel so you know something terrible has happened, but you don’t know the details. At several points I believed I had figured out the mystery, only to be proven wrong. There are moments where some of the events are just too much of a coincidence, but I’m happy to overlook that when I love the story.
As with The Glass House, the dual timeline is done really well and I loved how the two stories entwined. It pulled at my heartstrings and kept me intrigued until the final page.
What should I read after Black Rabbit Hall?
If you enjoyed Black Rabbit Hall, I’d definitely suggest reading more Eve Chase novels, such as The Birdcage and The Glass House.
