The first few Christmases without Gran were hard on Molly, but this year, her beloved boyfriend and fellow festive spirit, Juan Manuel, is intent on making the season Molly’s mofinst joyful yet.
But when a Secret Santa gift exchange at the Regency Grand Hotel raises questions about who Molly can and cannot trust, she dives headfirst into solving her most consequential—and personal—mystery yet. The Mistletoe Mystery Book Review
The Mistletoe Mystery is a short but sweet story and I really enjoyed spending time with Molly again. At just 128 pages, it’s a quick and cosy read, perfect for the festive season.
I have to say, though, the mystery wasn’t much of a mystery. The plot was predictable, and it felt like I could see what was happening from the start, even if Molly couldn’t.
In the previous books in the series, we as readers pick up on subtle clues that Molly may have missed due to her neurodivergence. However in this book, it was so obvious what was happening it prevented any drama or tension being built.
However, Molly is still an endearing character and this prevents the story from becoming too disappointing. With this book being marketed as a festive read, I can understand the author’s choice to provide a lighter tone compared to the usual murder mysteries in the series.
What this novella is about is the warmth and joy of Christmas, focusing on trust, love, and what really matters during the holidays. If you’re a fan of the series, it’s a cosy little read that brings all the festive vibes. Just don’t expect any villains, murders or crimes to solve!
