Jane Harper is a bestselling author known for her atmospheric and suspenseful crime novels set in rural Australia. In this post I’ll detail all the Jane Harper books in order.
Not all Jane Harper’s books need to be read in order as the majority of her books are standalone novels. However I would recommended reading the Aaron Falk novels in order.
Each book in the series is a contained story that could technically be read as a standlone, but to follow the evolution of Falk’s character, I’d recommend reading them in order.
The Dry was Jane Harper’s debut novel and the first in the popular Aaron Falk series. It was hugely successful, became a New York Times bestseller and won multiple awards.
Jane Harper has gone on to write two more books in the Aaron Falk series, Force of Nature, released a year after the debut, and Exiles released in 2023.

What is the best Jane Harper book?
It’s hard to give a definite answer to which is the best Jane Harper novel as everyone will have their own opinions. However my favourites were The Dry and Exiles.
I really enjoyed all the Aaron Falk books as not only were the mysteries really well done, Falk himself is such a likeable character. He has a compelling blend of determination, integrity and vulnerability that keeps you rooting for him throughout each investigation.
In the drought-ridden town of Kiewarra, Australia, the brutal murder-suicide of the Hadler family shocks the community. Luke Hadler is believed to be the perpetrator, but federal agent Aaron Falk, returning for the funeral, is drawn into the investigation.
As Falk delves into the case, he faces mounting questions, a suspicious town, and his own past secrets intertwined with Luke’s. The search for the truth reveals hidden layers of the crime and forces Falk to confront the community that once rejected him.
