Miss Austen by Gill Hornby is a historical fiction novel that explores the life of Cassandra Austen, the elder sister of the famous novelist Jane Austen. The story is set in the mid-19th century and delves into the relationship between the two sisters, focusing particularly on the years following Jane’s death.
As a huge fan of Jane Austen’s timeless wit and keen social insights, I’m always on the lookout for books that capture a similar spirit.
Some retellings are really best to be avoided as not all adaptations of Austen’s works or attempts to capture her style are successful. However there are some brilliant novels that really capture her essence and have become must-read books for fans of Jane Austen.
Godmersham Park is the latest novel by Gill Hornby, author of Miss Austen. As a Jane Austen fangirl, I couldn’t wait to read this. I was aware of the great friendship between Jane Austen and Anne Sharp and I couldn’t wait to read a book from Anne’s perspective.
