The list contains some of my absolute favourite debut novels. There are some award-winners and big hitters that I had to include, but I’ve also tried to highlight some lesser-known debuts that I’ve absolutely adored.

The Women’s Prize for Fiction longlist 2024 has just been announced and as usual there’s some brilliant titles included.
The Women’s Prize for Fiction (previously known as the Orange Prize for Fiction) began in 1991 as an answer to the previously male dominated Booker Prize. The prize aims to recognise the fantastic literary creations written by women.
The Maiden is the debut novel by Kate Foster, published in 2023. It was a Sunday Times bestseller and winner of the Bloody Scotland Crime Debut of the Year 2023.
The Maiden has also been longlisted for the Women’s Prize for Fiction 2024.
