Who is Ali Hazelwood?

Ali Hazelwood is a New York Times bestselling author of contemporary romcom novels. As a neuroscientist, Ali Hazelwood draws on her real life experience and creates stories about women in STEM and academia.

However Ali Hazelwood branched out from her usual genre and published a paranormal romance in 2024 titled Bride.

I really enjoy Ali Hazelwood’s books. Her writing style is engaging and I appreciate the how her books feel so distinguishable due to having a contemporary romance set in a scientific setting.

What was Ali Hazelwood’s debut novel?

Ali Hazelwood’s debut novel was The Love Hypothesis published in 2021.

Olive Smith, a skeptical Ph.D. candidate, finds herself in a predicament when she agrees to fake a romantic relationship to appease her best friend. Desperate for proof, she impulsively kisses Adam Carlsen, a notorious professor, to maintain the ruse.

Surprisingly, Adam agrees to play along, and as they navigate the complexities of their fake relationship, Olive finds herself drawn to him in unexpected ways. Amidst career challenges and unexpected feelings, Olive realises that love may be the most unpredictable experiment of all.

My favourite Ali Hazelwood books

I can personally recommend Love Theoretically and Love on the Brain by Ali Hazelwood. I loved the STEM vibes and how relatable the female main characters were.

Elsie Hannaway leads a double life: by day, she’s an adjunct professor, by night, a professional fake girlfriend. However, her worlds collide when she encounters Jack Smith, a physicist who holds the key to her dream job. Despite their initial animosity, Elsie finds herself drawn to Jack in unexpected ways.

As they navigate their complex relationship, Elsie must decide whether to stick to her carefully constructed personas or embrace her true self, even if it means risking her career and her heart.

Bee Königswasser faces a career-defining opportunity when NASA offers her a lead role on a neuroengineering project. However, her excitement is tempered by the prospect of co-leading with Levi Ward, her former archenemy from grad school.

As Bee navigates the challenges of her new role and grapples with her growing attraction to Levi, she must ultimately decide whether to follow her head or her heart.
