7 Of The Best Easter Books For Young Children

Books can be a great gift at Easter as a chocolate-free alternative. The kids can end up with so much chocolate, so it can be nice to give something a little bit different. Here are a few of our favourite Easter books for young children.

The Very First Easter

This is a lovely book that introduces children to the traditional Easter story. It describes the story of Jesus’ death and resurrection in a way that children can understand. The pages are filled with bright and colourful illustrations and simple language which makes it perfect for introducing the Easter story to little ones.

If I Were The Easter Bunny

A firm favourite in our house! Aimed at toddlers, the story tells us of a little rabbit who dreams of being the Easter Bunny. The pages are bright and colourful and grabbed the attention of my little one. We join the rabbit as he hides Easter eggs, makes Easter bonnets and takes part in the Easter parade. A lovely story that highlights how fun Easter can be for children.

Mr Impossible and The Easter Egg Hunt

Who doesn’t love the Mr Men? All three of mine have loved the Roger Hargreaves books. We join Mr Impossible as he is organising an Easter egg hunt for all the Mr Men and Little Miss characters. Full of fun as you would expect from this series and the kids’ favourite characters pop up along the way.

We’re Going On An Egg Hunt

Based on the familiar format of We’re Going On A Bear Hunt, this book was an instant hit with my daughter. She loved the repetition and was soon “reading” along. The illustrations are lovely and each page has a flap with a picture of an egg behind it! One of our favourites.

Spot’s First Easter

Another favourite series with our kids. I used to love Spot when I was little and I have passed the love on to my own kids. We join Spot on an Easter hunt, complete with lift-up flaps on each page. Another hit from Eric Hill.

The Bunny Who Found Easter 

This story by Charlotte Zolotow was originally published in 1959 and is something of an Easter classic. The story tells of a lonely bunny searching for Easter and other fellow bunnies. It’s a beautiful story, with lovely illustrations.

Guess How Much I Love You In The Spring

The classic Guess How Much I Love You story by Sam McBratney is my son’s all-time favourite story. Guess How Much I Love You In The Spring is a follow up to the original story, as Little Nutbrown Hare learns all about the changes that occur in Spring.
