I have discovered so many great books from book club recommendations. I have read so many books from the Richard and Judy 2020 Complete List so I was excited to see the Richard and Judy Book Club 2021 spring list has now been released. There are some books that have already made it onto my radar that have now become must-reads. There are six new titles to choose from and I love the sound of most of them!
Richard and Judy Book Club 2021 Spring List – The Chosen Books
American Dirt by Jeanine Cummins

Not only is this book on the Richard and Judy Book Club 2021 Spring list, it’s also an Oprah’s Book Club pick. American Dirt is written by American author Jeanine Cummins and tells the story of a Mexican woman who is forced to flee her home with her son, leaving her life behind to seek a new life in America as an undocumented citizen. However, it’s not been without controversy, as some believe a Caucasian such as Cummins should not be writing about a Hispanic woman. I’m willing to read the book with an open mind.

Playing Nice by JP Delaney

Playing Nice is the fourth standalone psychological thriller by the best-selling author JP Delaney. A couple’s seemingly normal life is interrupted by the revelation their son was switched at birth by the hospital where their child was born. The two families attempt to become the ultimate in modern parenting and attempt to raise their children together. However, their plan to sue the hospital triggers an official investigation that reveals some disturbing questions about the night their children were switched. Stretched to the breaking point, Pete and Maddie discover they will each stop at nothing to keep their family safe.

The Midnight Library by Matt Haig

The Midnight Library has been on my radar for a while, simply because I love Matt Haig. I love his mental health work and his books for kids, such as A Boy Called Christmas, which is a great Christmas book for older children. The Midnight Library tells the story of Nora who, just before she dies, is given the opportunity to undo every one of her regrets so she could have “the perfect life”. However, things don’t always go to plan and Nora must answer the ultimate question: what is the best way to live?

The Holdout by Graham Moore

The Holdout is a legal thriller by Graham Moore that is set to become a new TV series. It tells the story of a legal case involving a missing 15-year-old girl. Her teacher is expected to be found guilty in a seemingly “open and shut case” but one juror, Maya, persuades the jury to return the verdict as not guilty. 10 years on, one of the jury is found dead and Maya is the prime suspect. The real killer could be any of the other ten jurors. Is Maya being forced to pay the price for her decision all those years ago?
The Sight Of You by Holly Miller

The Sight Of You by Holly Miller is the story of Joel and Callie. Joel has visions revealing the good and the bad things that lie ahead for those in his dreams. He meets Callie who is grieving the death of her best friend. She realises she needs to start being more spontaneous and living her life fully. Together, they both need a reason to start living for today and the moment they meet each other it seems life-changing…until Joel has a vision of how it’s going to end.

The Recovery Of Rose Gold by Stephanie Wrobel

Dubbed as this year’s must-read thriller, The Recovery of Rose Gold by Stephanie Wrobel is the story of Rose Gold Watts and her mother Patty. For years Rose Gold believed she was ill, but it turned out to be an elaborate lie by her mother. Rose Gold testifies against her mother and Patty is sent to jail. 5 years on, Patty is out of jail and wants to settle past grievances and re-establish the relationship with her daughter. But has Patty truly forgotten their past? And is Rose Gold really able to forgive? A gripping tale that will make you question your allegiances until the very end.

Happy Families by Julie Ma

Happy Families is a novel by Julie Ma and has been selected as the winner of the 2020 Richard and Judy Search for a Bestseller competition. It’s a story of three generations and the secrets that have kept Amy’s family from living happily. When her grandfather collapses suddenly, Amy realises time is running out if she wants to play happy families again.
Richard and Judy Book Club 2021 Book List: My Opinion
There seems to be a really good mix of books on the list and I like they’re from different genres. I’ve been reading a lot of historical fiction at the moment so I’m a little disappointed not to see one of those on the list but perhaps it will help broaden my horizons!
So that’s the complete Richard and Judy Book Club 2021 Spring List. Are there any you’re looking forward to reading or already read? I’m starting with Matt Haig’s The Midnight Library but I’m hoping to read them all!
