Who is Jessie Burton?

Jessie Burton is a bestselling British author known for her historical fiction stories. Her debut novel, The Miniaturist, shot her to fame with its intriguing plot and vivid imagery. It was both a New York Times and a Sunday Times bestseller. Jessie Burton also won New Writer of the Year and Book of the Year for The Miniaturist at the National Book Awards in 2014. The Miniaturist was the subject of a bidding war at the April 2013 London Book Fair and it was adapted as a two-part miniseries for the BBC.

Since then, Burton has continued to enchant readers with her compelling narratives and insightful exploration of human emotions. Collectively her novels have been published in almost 40 languages.

Jessie Burton has written four novels at the time of writing along with two books aimed at a younger audience.

The Miniaturist was released back in 2014 and became a number one bestseller and a major BBC TV series. It was the winner of the Specsavers National Book Award and Waterstones Book of the Year. It was also chosen as a Richard and Judy Book Club selection.

At the time of writing Jessie Burton has written two stand-alone novels. The Muse was released in 2016 while The Confession was released in 2019. Both books were selected as part of the Richard and Judy book club.

Burton’s first novel for children, The Restless Girls, was published in September 2018. The story is based on the Brothers Grimm tale, The Twelve Dancing Princesses. Her second children’s book was Medusa, based on the famous Greek myth.

What is the best Jessie Burton novel?

If you’re new to Jessie Burton I’d probably suggest reading The Miniaturist first. It was such a big hit when it was released so that would be a good place to start.

However, for me personally, her best book is The Muse. I enjoyed it far more than the Miniaturist and The House of Fortune, but obviously that’s just personal preference.
