Plot

While stuck in a rut in both her relationship and her career, Fran is offered the once in a lifetime opportunity – to be assistant to a megastar. The job takes her away from her ordinary life and despite things not always going to plan, she finds herself attending the exclusive and prestigious Crystal Ball.

After (literally) bumping into a handsome American earlier in the day, she finds herself face to face with him again at the ball.

Could this be the start of the life she has always dreamt of? Or will ‘real life’ bring her back to earth with a bump?

On A Night Like This Book Review

This was a fun, romantic read with likeable and believable characters. Some of the situations the characters find themselves in may be slightly implausible but I can forgive that!

The dialogue was witty and made me laugh out loud at several points. It was a modern take on the traditional fairytale and I did enjoy the moments that weren’t as predictable as I expected.

As much as I loved the instant bond between Evan and Fran, I also liked the female friendships throughout the book.

It was a lovely read, full of optimism and wit and I found myself smiling throughout. Since it’s been touted as the ‘feel-good Christmas romcom of 2021’ I would have preferred a more festive vibe. I felt other than the ending, the story could honestly have been set at any time of year. However, this is just a minor niggle from someone obsessed with Christmas!
