The Last Devil to Die Book Review
With each new book, The Thursday Murder Club series just get better and better. The Last Devil to Die was no exception and is definitely my favourite book of the series.
When I read a Richard Osman book, I often find myself caring less about the actual mystery and more about spending time with the characters themselves. Osman has created such an eclectic bunch, and by now, they feel like old friends. This time around, the story had a deeper emotional impact and I definitely shed a tear (or twenty!)
Thankfully Richard Osman’s trademark wit is still there, which made me laugh out loud even as my heartstrings were being tugged. The delightful Joyce (and Alan the dog!) often provide the moments of levity that balance out the more emotional threads of the story. Her diary entries are one of my favourite parts of the series.
And Ibrahim. Oh, Ibrahim. I’ve always loved his calm, measured approach to life, but in this book we get to learn more about him, and it made me love him a little bit more.
Richard Osman has a real gift for making his characters feel alive and three-dimensional, and it’s this connection to them that keeps me coming back for more. The mystery is fun and clever, but at the end of the day, it’s the relationships, the banter, and the warmth between these unlikely friends that make The Last Devil to Die such a joy to read.

He is the creator and former co-presenter of the television quiz show Pointless, alongside Alexander Armstrong, and also created his own quiz show, Richard Osman’s House of Games.
