We Solve Murders is a strong start to Richard Osman’s new series, and I am already looking forward to what comes next.
It must be nerve-wracking to follow up such a massive hit like The Thursday Murder Club, but this book definitely delivers. I think I’d go as far as saying I preferred it to the first book in the previous series.
The dynamic between Steve and Amy is fantastic. Their contrasting personalities, with Steve’s laid-back charm and Amy’s high-energy approach, create such a fun pairing. The supporting cast is just as memorable, and Rosie D’Antonio, the flamboyant mystery writer, is such much fun.
Richard Osman’s humour is as sharp as ever, and I found myself laughing out loud at some of the situations unassuming Steve found himself in.
I also love how Osman always manages to capture people and their eccentricities with such warmth and wit. The book manages to balance lighthearted fun with moments of unexpected poignancy, making it much more than just an ordinary mystery.
The plot itself is full of twists, mayhem, and changes in location. The globe-trotting adventure kept the story fresh, and the mystery had plenty of twists and turns.
I’m definitely looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
